On Sunday 14th May 2023, Kevin Sinfield carried Rob Burrow over the finish line at the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon, after pushing his best friend and former Leeds Rhinos team-mate for 26.2 miles.
They crossed the course line together in an emotional finish at Headingley Stadium. As the crowd cheered them on, 12,500 other runners crossed the finish line in the first Leeds Marathon in 20 years.
The event was a partnership between Leeds City Council and Jane Tomlinson's Run For All, which stages the popular Leeds Half Marathon and Yorkshire Marathon. Following the overwhelming response to this year's Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon, it has been announced that the event will be making a return to the city in 2024.
Inspired by former Leeds Rhinos caption Kevin Sinfield OBE's running challenges in recent years in support of his friend and teammate Rob, the event has even motivated thousands of others to take on their own marathon challenge!
In total, Kevin Sinfield has raised more than £7 million for MND charities after several other ventures, including this one in particular which raised over £1 million alone.
Our Head of Design, Richard Thomas, took great precision and care when designing this medal, incorporating the number seven - which was Rob's Number at Leeds Rhinos.
Well Done to everyone who took part in this fantastic event, for such a great cause! Congratulations to the first-ever winners of this Marathon, Nathan Edmondson finishing in an impressive 2 hours, 29 minutes and 14 seconds. And, Eleanor Baker who finished in just two hours, 41 minutes and one second.
